KVAFSU/CVA Animal Welfare Research Centre
The Commonwealth Veterinary Association(CVA) in collaboration with the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University(KVAFSU) has established an Animal Welfare Research Centre, the first of its kind in India, at the Veterinary College, Bangalore affiliated to KVAFSU. This centre is housed in the Department of Livestock Production of the Veterinary College. The centre will undertake research in animal welfare utilising the facilities of the dairy, poultry, piggery and sheep farms of the University at Bangalore.
The CVA which has a MOU with the University of Edinburgh will be seeking collaboration from The Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education at the University of Edinburgh’s Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary and the University of Queensland, Australia.
It is envisaged that a post graduate programme on animal welfare will be started at this centre. A workshop on Animal Welfare Research is planned during the 7th Pan Commonwealth Veterinary Conference in Bangalore, India from 3rd to 7th March 2019 wherein international experts on animal welfare will participate and sensitise academics from 44 veterinary schools across India.
