Dr Bill Pryor Appointed Patron of the CVA
At the Meeting of the Executive Officers on April 6, 2020 the decision was taken to appoint Dr. William J Pryor AO as Patron of the Commonwealth Veterinary Association.
Dr. Pryor hails from Scotsburn, Victoria, Australia.
His roles with the CVA have included:
- Appointed Councillor to CVA for the Australian Veterinary Association on 20th July 1979 served in this role until 1985
- Regional Representative for Australasia/Oceania from 1986 to 1991
- Secretary/Treasurer of CVA 1991 – 1995
- President CVA from 1995 – 1999
- Past President and Treasurer CVA 2000 -2003
- CVA Treasurer 2004 – 2010
- Honourary Life President
His professional roles have included:
- Dean of the Veterinary School University of Queensland Australia
- Professor and Dean of the Veterinary School, Massey University New Zealand
- International Veterinary Consultant Chairman of the Australian Veterinary Schools Accreditation Committee.
- He was President of the Australian Veterinary Association,
- President of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists
- President of the Australian Society of Animal Production.
His awards and honours have included:
- Dr Pryor has travelled extensively in South East Asia and the Pacific region where he worked for many years to assist veterinary services and education. For this he was awarded the D.Sc. (h.c) from Massey University in 1988.
- The British Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons honoured Dr. Pryor in 1992 making him an Honourary Associate, the fourth Australian in the 200 years of its history. This was in recognition of his development in an international veterinary accreditation system and his extensive assistance to veterinary communities in several developing countries.
- The award of Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Queens Birthday Honours for Australia in 2001
- Honourary Degree of Doctor of Science from University of Ballarat Australia.
- 2001 at the VAM Conference by the Veterinary Association of Malaysia as the Veterinarian of the Century for his contribution to the field of veterinary profession not only in Australia but to his commitment and work throughout the Commonwealth especially in the Far East and Malaysia in particular, in addition to many others during his illustrious career which continues in the CVA.
He is married and his wife Ann assisted in CVA Programmes. He has five sons one of whom is also a veterinary graduate.
